The Muslim Community of Tidewater (MCT) in Norfolk Virginia serves hundreds of families in Hampton roads, Virginia,. The idea of the community center was first conceived in September 1982. The Muslim Community Center was dedicated and occupied for use in May 1983 and has since grown to become a regionally recognized Islamic center.
The MCT has become prominent by offering services and programs for the benefit of our community at large. The Center is a volunteer-managed, non-profit organization established under the laws of the State of Virginia. While the area Muslim population utilizes most of its services, the MCT organization is dedicated to serving all human beings, regardless of faith, color, origin, and creed of the service seeker.
The MCT is official in charge of the Islamic Center of Tidewater and affairs related to the center. Some of the Major services provided by MCT are Friday Prayer in the center, Daily Ramadan Iftaar (Breakfast in the Muslim Month of Ramadan) and Taraweeh prayers in the Month of Ramadan and Eid Party.
The MCT organization is community-supported and does not accept string-attached funding from special interest groups, foreign governments, or political parties. The member-approved bylaws and Articles of Incorporation govern its affairs. Its management includes a seven member Board of Directors and a five member Board of Trustees. The MCT members annually elect the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for a two-year term each on rotation basis. A general body meeting is held yearly in which every member in good standing has the right to vote on MCT affairs. In order to be a voting member of MCT the Individual has to be resident of United States and Pay yearly due of $200.00 Additional town hall and/or interim general body meetings may be called prior to annual meeting.
The MCT mission clearly describes its organizational duties to “…promote friendly relations and understanding between the Muslim community and the general public, and to disseminate information on Islamic principles…”. We pray to Almighty that He provides us the resources and strength to fulfill our mission of bringing peace to this planet by serving all human beings irrespective of their choice of faith (Amen).
Please note that because of the not-for-profit status, all donations to MCT are tax exempt.
Thank you. May Allah bless you.
